Hi everyone, I suppose it's probably the b*$&%$d squash vine borer , but I'll be buggered I cannot locate any actual signs of it. I posted pictures earlier, with no response, and I'm desperate to know if anyone can tell me what to do??? Please??? I have a small suburban garden, and I have crammed too much into it. The squash is extending the entire garden, weaving between things. I have quite a few squash on the vines, but one after the other, I'm losing them. The squash itself starts to wither at about 4 inches long, then it starts to rot and turn brown on the vine. I have looked up and down the vine, and haven't been able to see any "frass", holes, or anything that looks even a little off about the vines. I have taken a sharp knife to the vine that's affected, and haven't seen any hollowing or any grub. How do I figure out if it's that blasted bug or not? Suggestions are welcome Thanks, Nancy
I think that you are desribing a simple polination issue. If a squash doesn't get proper pollination, it will often grow to small size, but will be spongy, then start to shrink and rot.
