Vegetables on imature plant?

Hi,

I have planted some okra plants from seed in my garden. After some 2 months now the okra plant is reached to height of 12-14 inch but it has started to yield the fruit. Is it normal to have fruit on okra plant of this height?

thanks
C.

I don't know if it is "normal", but I have seen it in nurseries in pot bound plants and the baby bubba okra is a short okra so it will start to flower short. If your plant has been started properly and got enough growing space, sun, and fertilizer and it is not a dwarf type, it should be a little taller than that before it starts to flower. It usually starts to flower around 2 months old.

Yeah. They are big plants they need 12-18 inch spacing. I have 4 in an 18 gallon pot which is also going to be close, but they are still taller and are not flowering. It is probably more than spacing. What is your soil like and what did you use as a pre plant fertilizer?

If you have had some unusual temperature fluctuations (extreme overnight lows or daytime highs), that might have triggered them too....
