Garlic: bulbil method pros & cons?

I've spent 2-3 years growing garlic from bulbils but am thinking I'll go back to my old practice of just saving cloves from each year's harvest to replant for the next crop (though I do know that the bulbil method gives better protection from disease.)

Reasons for my growing :) dissatisfaction with the bulbil method:
- It takes 3 harvests to get to a sizable bulb: You grow a 'round', which grows a small bulb, whose cloves grow bulbs for the kitchen.
- The bulbs grown this way, in my experience, are smaller than those I can grow from the cloves of big 'fullsize' bulbs.
- In a given year I must plant rounds and bulbils as well as cloves; takes more work & more space than just planting bigger cloves.

Any one else growing from bulbils - comments?
