WHAT is the official name of potatoes that are NOT sweet potatoes???

After several days no luck finding seed potatoes online I did a search by potato name and up came a long list of potatoes. Amazon seems to have best prices. Burpees wants $70. for 10 seed potatoes. Potato farms in business to make $$$ are over priced 3 potatoes $50.

I have been reading the description what some of these potatoes taste like. What does, These potatoes have an earthy flavor. What does that mean? Do they taste like dirt?

Haha I have no idea. Maybe they have thicker skin? I feel like thicker, inedible skinned potatoes tend to be more “dirt” like. I’m curious to find out.

This is very interesting, grocery store Russet potatoes from the same bag of potatoes. There appears to be 2 different kinds of Russet potatoes, 1 has red color chits, 1 has green color chits. Online info say, different colors indicate different variety of potato. That is very interesting.

That IS interesting that these came from same bag. Maybe keep track of them as they grow and see if there are differences in foliage/stem color and possibly flowers, etc.

But Russet might be merely widely recognizable type description and not variety. I wonder if these potatoes didn’t even come from the same farm but are collected and processed by aco-op or major ag company, or if a farm might grow different varieties to improve chances of success?

Solanacea do respond to cold and turn purple so I wonder if that can affect them too.

I bought 5 lbs. of French Fingerling White Crescent seed potatoes on ebay for $10 + $10 postage. I didn't expect them to be this small look at the pencil eraser compared to the potatoes. I wonder if I plant them 1" apart if that is too close together. I have no clue best way to plant these.

7 of my 17 Dutch Blue potatoes have not sprouted. A commercial grower said, heat seed potatoes to 75°f that will break the doormat cycle. I wrapped 7 potatoes in a heating pad wait and see if this works. Commercial grower said, last years harvest is this years seed potatoes, grocery store potatoes are $1 per lb, seed potatoes sell for $5 per lb.
