Food Grade Containers for DWC

Hi Guys,

I starting a DYI DWC system and most of the videos I've seen show using a storage tote and drilling holes for net baskets. This is the approach I'm starting with. However, I've seen multiple videos that talk about using "food grade" containers for reservoirs. I'm not seeing this as an option for other than 5-gallon buckets. How important is it that you use food grade and are there food grade storage totes?

Thanks.....

Lowe's sells food grade buckets. They are a little shorter than your typical food grade 5 gallon gallon bucket

You can also get food grade buckets from restaurants, sometimes for free sometimes for price. You have to get there at the right time though since they don't hold on to them very long and they may not have lids. If you buy anything in bulk, those containers are also food grade. If you are not concerned with the lids being air tight you have more options.

Since I actually use them to store rice and fertilizer, I need a lid with a gasket.
