How close to septic system?

Hi everyone, I have a crazy question, what would you say is a safe distance that you should be away from a septic system or drainfield when growing a veggie garden? Thanks.

15 feet away from the tank in all directions (leave room for the pumper).....and 100 feet away from the leach field, in all directions.

I actually worked in the septic business, here in pa for water sources you must be 50' from septic tanks and 100' from the absorption area. In my opinion, I wouldn't plant anything in the direct vicinity of either the tank or absorption, 15'-20' distance would be safe. Once the effluent from your home enters the ground it starts the purification process to enter back into the water table, vegetables with their shallow roots wouldn't be able to get close enough to the effluent to actually suck any of it up. If you are planting bushes or tree makes sure to keep them a good 30'+ away due to root spread, roots can cause major problems with your septic system.
