Yellow on garlic clove skins

garlic yellow skin.JPG
Some of my newly purchased garlic for planting have yellow patches on the outer skin of the cloves. As far as I can tell the cloves themselves are not discoloured; but this is not something I've seen before. Anyone else have experience with this? The ones in the photo are Susan Delafield; the one second from the left is a good example of the patchy yellow (and I've planted them anyway, in their skins :)).

I have seen this on many garlics before, looking much like yours, with the yellow inside, on purple varieties (most of mine are purple varieties). Maybe it is the pigments that haven't gotten to their final color? I've never had any problems with them when I planted them, as the garlic grew well, and stores well, as per variety.

Oh good point pepperhead. I was thinking it would be OK, too, since I'm seeing the coloring on mine as well, but didn't think about possible connection to the purple papered varieties.
