Weird tomato

Why does my tomato look like this?

Also I'm not talking about the color.

It would be easier to comment if you are a little more specific you know.

If you are talking about the cracking and splitting, some people will tell you thats the NORMAL way most tomatoes turn out in hot and dry weather. But some varieties are more susceptible to the fluctuating wet-dry-wet-dry-wet due to uneven moisture levels -- due to irregular watering or alternating drought-deluge weather.

Most all home grown garden tomatoes have a little cracking and splitting. Yours look good and the fix is to let it ripen a little more , pick it and if your really feel the need, trim the marks off and then make a nice meal out of a home grown tomato. What is the variety?

The reason store bought tomatoes don't look like this is because they are bred to be picture perfect but the flavor is bred out as well. The picture tastes better than the tomato.

Enjoy nature's wondrous pageantry flaws and all. (what you have is nothing at all to worry about....normal)

Radial cracking is common in some tomato varieties. Concentric cracking like yours usually occus in larger tomatoes from uneven watering. Yours is not that bad so it looks perfectly good to eat.

Commercial growers have to grow varieties that ship and store well. They have to be pretty too. They have to get the food to the people and the people buy based on what they see.
We gardeners grow what tastes best. We are willing accept a little bruising, splits and short shelf life.
