What am I growing?

We lost the seed packets for these plants that are growing quite nicely now in our garden, but we have no idea what they are and would appreciate your opinion of them. The plants are low, about 20 cm or 8" tall, and have broad, prickly, leaves, with reddish colored stems. Any ideas?

I'm thinking borage. Does it have little blue flowers? Its an herb but it grows freely once started so watch out as it will self-seed and expand its territory!

Borage was my first thought too.

Hmmmmm........ If you did not plant it and do not have a name for it......... its a weed. Yank it out! What is a weed? My definition: A plant out of place!
