butternut squash

if I buy a butternut squash will be able to take the seeds and plant them?.

You betcha,

just wash all the flesh off them and dry them with paper towel, leave in a cool place and let dry for about a week and plant in the garden this spring.

I did this and currently have about 200 seedlings that are anywhere from 3-8 inches tall right now...I will be giving most away obviously.
