Asparagus is too large

Hello all. I searched many places and couldn't find an answer to my question. I started some asparagus a few years ago (purple asparagus that I started from a root mass) and it has been growing well. Only a few spears each year and I let it go to fern or whatever its called the first couple years then it produced some grill-able spears last year and the year before. This year its producing super-thick (yet delicious) spears. Is there a way to coax them into producing thinner but more quantity of spears? I can't seem to find a good solution to my problem online. Thanks in advance, new member, Dustin.

Dustin, all you can do is clip those spears when 8 to 10 inches tall . Just keep it all clipped until time to let it grow up. For me that is about July 5. You might try a few more crowns of different varieties? Enjoy!

Yes, the mature crowns do send up some nice sized spears.
