Did the tassels come out and did the ears form and you failed to get corn kernals form?
If the tassels did not come out, they weren't ready yet. Corn is a long crop 70-85 days. However, as the days get shorter, corn will take longer to mature.
Corn is a heavy feeder of nitrogen; takes up a relatively large space in a small garden; needs to be planted in a block 4x4 or bigger rather than in a row for good pollination. Corn ears are ready when the silk turns brown and you can feel the kernels through the husk or when you open the husk and you can see how well the ear is filled. The juices should be semi clear, if the kernels are dark and not as plump and the juices are thick and milky, the corn is starchy.
If you want sweet corn make sure you plant a sweet corn variety.

Corn is a big plant. It needs room to do its thing. It also needs company so it gets pollinated. I suggest planting at least 3 rows spaced 30 inches and at least 8 feet long. 4 rows would be better.
Variety? Corn comes in many varieties, some are early and others later. You would want to get something that will
mature in your area. Plant it in the ground where it will grow one week before the last (avg) frost in your area. Corn does not do well with transplanting. Full sun. Have fun.
