A couple years ago I grew what I am pretty sure was a squash, and I am pretty sure it was a winter squash. It got spotty mildew and died soon BUT I did get a few fruits. There were small, round and stripped like a zebra, mostly green with white and/or black lines. Inside was orange and tasted like a fruit (similar to cantaloupe). It was on a vine. Outside was not perfectly round but had small ridges like an acorn squash but not as pronounced.
It was really good but I have no idea what it was??????????
