Help with yellowing melon leaves

This is my first year trying to grow melons. I have quite a few melons growing on the vines and looking great. But the leaves nearest to the stem/roots are starting to yellow. Some have already turned brown and died. Is this normal? I started these plants by seed in February. Put them in the ground in May. I live in zone 7 if that helps. Any thoughts on what's going on here? Thanks!

yes, sometimes the first leaves to set on the plant will die back. Assuming that you have not been either over or under watering I won't worry much about it if the majority of the leaves are not dying back.
