Huge Yellow Squash - Please Help Me ID It!

Hi there, I'm new to the forum. I found it because I am trying to ID a mystery squash and the forum popped up when I searched the internet. :)

Our neighbors are growing squash in their yard and it has come over our bamboo hedge. Out of curiosity, I have let the squash grow where it felt like, and have seen the blossom grow into a huge, foot-diameter yellow squash with a slight variegation to it. I finally cut the squash today because I didn't want it to fall, and am now wondering if it might be edible? I love squash and have already come up with several recipes in case it is!

Can anyone help me ID this squash?

it looks like it might be an under-ripe pumpkin. I'm not a squash expert though so if anyone else knows what it might be please say.

Yep, looks like a pumpkin to me. Since you have already cut it off the vine, might as well open it up and see.
