pickling cucumbers

Is it necessary to train cucumbers up a trellis of some sort or can I leave them on the ground. Space is not an issue. They are spaced about 3 feet apart and I have 8 sets of plants.

I did not realize how those baby plants would take off so I put 2-3 in one hole... should I transplant these or should I just pull the smallest

if space isn't an issue, I'd leave them, no thinning. and yes, they'll do fine on the ground.

you're gonna have a lot of pickling to do.

I've planted up to 8 plants together and made a big mother plant with no problems, leave them. I do help train them to grow with the trellis, sometimes with so many they wind up growing toward the ground when in containers which I think helps with the look of the plant. Good Luck
