Is This a Weed or a Plant

Hi All,

I'm new to gardening and found this growing in one of my raised beds. Should I pull it? I'm growing broccoli in the space in front of it.

Weed - spreads like crazy. Isn't it a little late for broccoli in Georgia?

Thanks!

I'm not sure. I'm new to gardening & planted broccoli seeds in an empty spot.

As a new gardener you may find this helpful.

I put a lot of faith in land grant university information. It is research based and region specific. In my favorites I have a folder for LSU Ag Center with sub folders containing information and publications on a wide variety of topics ranging from vegetable gardening, home orchards, composting, insect and disease control, the list goes on and on. They even have publications on topics like home canning and preserving. Obviously my go-to reference.

Hope this helps.

Good luck

Thanks Elizabeth. I really needed this information. I based my plants on what I wanted not the growing season. Newbie error. I was a little excited about the process.

A weed is any plant growing where you don't want it. Jerk it out.

That is a tree. I don't know the name. My neighbor 2 house from me in Tennessee has one and I always had those tiny plants in my garden. It is not a tree you want to save, it does not grow tall, limbs break off easy in strong wind.

I think catgrass already nailed it - mimosa tree seedling.
