Some of the SE corn varieties can germinate well in cool soil. Ambrosia is one and a good choice in my garden, way up here in my corner of the Wild West :).

The same 17" is supposed to fall here and a little of it is showing up today. There was only just over 11" in 2013.

I have wondered about gardening where monsoons bring some growing season moisture. We hardly have any of that. I think our climate is much like yours, James. Most of water is available from winter snow. Of course, there's more to this "timing" thing. Also, there is wind, heat, soil type . . .

Thanks for the info! I think I will plant some Ambrosia this weekend. It is supposed to warm back up.
