Using spent grain and hops as garden amendments.

I recently read about using spent hops and grain discarded by breweries as mulch. I have a place where I can get free used coffee grounds also. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge using spent grains and hops?

Pile them into a tower or bin composter. layer up with browns. Harvest in six months or so.
