Built A Potato Bin Today

I used some of the reject lumber I bought at work a couple years ago. I have a lot of six foot 2"x 6"s so I made it 6'x3'. I ripped some into 3 pieces each for a slat floor. The last picture is a 50 lb bag of potatoes. It should easily hold 500 lbs, even though I'll probably never have that much.

I put it in my 32'x40' basement. I had my son help carry it in there.

I was skimming through this thread. I at first thought you were going to use this to grow in, which at first didn't make a whole lot of sense than I saw you were putting it in your basement. Than I thought that is crazy and I do some crazy stuff. But for storage I love it. Good luck with it I am sure it will do fine.

John you have a very nice bin as well.

I just use potato sacks, I did this for onions as well. But I tried some mesh socks (think long pantyhose that you tie up after each onion) I got from Dixondale this year that work great.

Yours looks nicer than mine. I can tell you spent a lot more time building it.

A lot of the things I build are geared more toward being functional than looking nice because its faster. I never have enough time to get stuff done.

Not really, I had a complete woodshop at the time and a local lumber yard had 1"x10"x 8' on sale at 50% off. My motivation was I didn't want to carry all the squash, potatoes' sweet potatoes and apples down the cellar stares. I don't have access to the basement from outside.
