I just grew radishes for the first time this year...I loved it. very satisfying. I read the longer you leave them in the hotter they get. I'm not sure if that true, but I left them in long after I could see a red bulb at the base. they were very hot.

Hey gb,
me again, I plant my radish as soon as I can get them in the ground, for southern illinois that is generally march, and start eating them as soon as they are the size of my little finger and quit when they are so hot they make my eyes water. My guess, living in Louisiana and planting in May, they will be hot from the get go. Radish love very cool weather to grow. Oh well, what the heck, let us know how they turn out. Don

If you don't see the tops of the bulbs yet, you can carefully pull away some of the soil at the base of the leaves to get an idea of how large they are. And if you have too many of them too close to one another, you might want to pull a few to give the others room to expand to a nice size.

Thanks for the advice! I guess I'll pull one tommorow morning to see how big it is

Also it's a good idea to sow a little radishes with short intervals - every week or so. When they are ready to eat, it only takes short time before they are too old.
