I am really wanting to learn so much more about growing my own veg (especially given all the food scares!)

Anyone got any good tips? I guess i need to start of easy...

I saw this on the UKTV site which is helpful too :)

the advice I would suggest as being most important is to get your soil in shape first, add lots of organic matter. The less chemicals you use, the better. If you abstain from chemicals and chemical fertilizers, the bugs will mostly control each other. Also, of course, choosing the right site for the most sun exposure throughout the day is crucial. Veggies need full sun to produce a good harvest.
Growing your own veggies is the way to go. As you said, the food scares, not to mention the price of them in the stores is ridiculous.
Good luck.

I think it is just about giving it a go! Just get things that you buy all the time from the shops and stick them in the ground! If you follow your common sense you'll end up with something to show for it. If you encounter any problems this forum is really good and there is always stuff on other sites.
I only started a couple of years ago and in my first year i only did peppers, tomatoes, peas and cucumber- i ended up with like 6 tomatoes, 4 peppers, a few peas and 1 cucumber after alot of effort but i loved every second since then I have got better and have got a range of stuff this year, some of which i am already harvesting.

You'll be fine, just go for it! good luck :)

Thanks so much for your advice :D I think i'll just bite the bullet and go for it! I love food and cooking so having fresh, chemical free produce will be amazing.

Are there any other good websites you can recommend? Like i said i love the UKTV gardens website as it is so helpful for a beginner like me but I'm always looking for new ideas :)
