I am planning on growing Dusky Hybrid Eggplant, and I never have grown eggplant before, are there any good tips on growing them?

NewZealander, you are a riot!
I'm trying to grow eggplant for the first time this year. I have read that it is best to start your seeds indoors several months before the final frost. It's to late for me to do that now and I have simply planted the seeds on mounds. It will be interesting to see how they turn out.

I've grown eggplant for three years now.
At first it seems like it is going to be YEARS before you ever get anything - they seem to stay 6" tall for months. I suspect in that time they are creating a healthy root system, because overnight they are these waist-high, big leafed bushy plants. Eggplant are HEAVY as they grow, do keep stakes handy and nylon hose in case the plant isn't able to hold the growth. Expect about 5 eggplant from each plant.
Fertilizer: I tend to use miracle gro. Not sure what it needs naturally - lol.
Watch for squirrels, and worms as the fruits develop. Squirrels like to peel off the bark and the worms seem interested in the plant more than the fruit.
I love fried eggplant. MMMMmmmmmm.....
Of course, there's eggplant parmesan, and eggplant casserole too.
