weeding

Is weeding corn necessary once its established?

I read somewhere that it outcompetes the weeds. I stopped weeding after the corn was a couple feet tall. Partially because it its much harder to work in between the rows now without damaging plants - its a thick corn forest in there.

Couple feet tall? You can stop weeding as far as the corn is concerned, however I still hate to let weeds go to seed in my gardens. You decide.

While it is true the corn can compete, corn is still a heavy feeder, so why feed the weeds. Besides it really is true 1 year of seeding is 7 years or more of weeding.

I still try to weed between the corn if I can get to it. The corn actually helps to keep some weeds down by shading the soil, so it is actually easier to pull the weeds that do come out and it only takes me a few minutes to weed my small patch of corn.
