Where to put a new veggie garden?

We are planning on building a new garden. We already have the seeds going. But we don't know what the best place to put the garden is? We have a big square backyard, but there are tall tree that surround our fence.

I heard we should put it in the Northeast corner on our back yard? Can anoyone help me with this? I want to make sure they get enough light.

Also, how often should they be watered?
