Double Dog Farm Garlic 2012-2013

Even with Dono's gracious offer to post on his Garlic Journal 2012-2013, I decided not to flood it with photos.

I'm also planting Music, Chesnok Red, Georgian Crystal and Pescadero Red. The last three thanks to Dono. (Gixxerific)

First I removed the Japanese Black Trifele tomatoes from this bed.

Then I used my grubbing hoe, very shallow and raked it smooth.

Here's Music garlic ready to be planted. I don't soak or remove the paper skin.

Some of you have seen this panel. I cut it to 3ft wide and bent a slight arc into it. The openings are 4". Last year I plant a clove in every opening. My garlic heads came out smaller. This year I place a clove in every other opening. 8" apart in all directions.

The last step, I covered the bed and aisle with anything I could get my hands on. Kirby is a quick little bugger. I ran corn stocks and cobs, broccoli stumps, bean vines, tomato plants etc through my shredder.

No cardboard on this bed, but I'm still thinking maybe on the next one.

I pressed each clove into the soil so it would have good contact. Then covered it with mulch. I'm thinking with the rain the soil will fill in around them. I will be adding more mulch as the sprout manifest.

Some say plant 2" or 3" deep. I've found with the tip close to soil surface grows some pretty good garlic.

I just planted 4 store bought cloves in a pot to see how they do. If I like growing them I will put in a bunch next year.
