Notes on my garden 2

Droughts SUCK!!!

Now that that is outta the way.

Tomatoes need lots of room. Like 4ft of space for Indeterminate. Determinate and In don't mix. The Ins will shade the Ds and that is not good.

Little Kids and planting makes for a stressful experience.

Which leads to over planting carrots. Which leads to underdeveloped carrots. Still tasty...just small.

Squirrels love freshly planted corn seeds and stalks. Bastards.

Plant corn and let it grow a bit BEFORE pumpkins and squash. Replanting corn after they have come up leads to stunted corn.

Don't plant during a drought. Water bill will thank you.

All plants grow. Trees grow leaves. Leaves shade in summer that which wasn't in winter.

Squirrels love tomatoes. Bastards.

Tomatoes become invasive if left alone.

Cucumber love to climb. So do the bugs that feed on them.

Stripped and Spotted Cucumber beetles will eat ANYTHING.

Parasitic wasps and hoverflies LOVE Dill, Parsley and Chives. Plant more.

That's about all I can think of right now. Any other thoughts?

PS Shoot the squirrels.

Isn't it great to get things off your chest ? Hmmm, here are some things that may help.

Irrigate. Might be hard if your only source of water is going through a meter. Mulch heavily.

Make a corn patch and a Pumpkin patch. Both will do better without competition.

I won't get started on little kids....................... I had a bunch.

Squirrels and other critters, have to go. Trap, shoot, whatever it takes. A radio left running in the corn patch seems to keep skunks and coons out. A good stout air rifle will take out any of these critters and is probably legal to shoot even in city limits.

OK, to add to your list of frustrations: WEEDS!!!
