my tomatoes are turning and I'm going on vacation...

Why does it seem that something needs to be picked when you have something scheduled.. oh well.. they'll be there when I get back and I'll make sauce instead of sandwiches..

How long does it take tomatoes to turn totally red once they've started just barely turning orange? How long can they stay red once ripe before being picked? I am asking cuz I am going on vacation for ten days on August 31. I was hoping they'd be picked by then, but most of them are still green.

Here's a link someone else had posted about timeline of developing tomatoes:

It looks like 5-7 days from blush to red, but another week or so after that before it is starting to decline.

That is a good referance. Though differeant variety's will take forever and others will go from ripe to rot in the blink of an eye.
