I enjoy harvesting root crops. Especially potatoes.

Above ground crops are fine, but not like the mystery root crop. Tomatoes, beans, squash etc.. you can watch them grow and change daily. The root crop, sure you can peek, but your not quite sure. You grab a hold of the carrot top and just before you pull your thinking hope its a good one. Dang! or All right!

Yukon Gold potatoes
The plants just started to yellow and die down.

Yukon Gold is one of my favorites, especially for frying. That's a nice looking crop.

Looking good. I have tried the Yukon Gold here, but the Red Pontiacs give me a bigger crop.

I pulled just enough red taters the other day for dinner. I just poked in a finger here and there until I bumped into a tuber then lifted it and left the plant. They are still growing. New spuds and corn on the cob. Yummy!

I grew Red Pontiac ,one year, many years ago before moving to the Island. Maybe it's time to try them again.

James, How many different ways have you eaten Red Pontiac? Yukon Gold is a pretty universal spud.

We don't bake the reds. They are good fried, in potato salad, or for mashed potatoes.

Are you growing a russet or baking potato?

I agree with the original post in this thread. big time.

not quite related - there's also something about picking fruit off a tree that my inner monkey really exults in.
