2012 This year at the Pergola Gardening Area

This was my original gardening area which consisted of eight beds skirted by concrete walk area. Now raised beds are on an adjacent concrete slab and approximately 30 feet by 50 feet are gardened off of the other end. We as well have raised beds and in ground beds scattered in other parts of the yard. I still consider this to be our main gardening area.

This shot shows tomatoes, beans, and day lilies.

This view is of the in ground garden area right beside the pergola and concreted bed area.

This is my potting bench, which is beside the raised beds on concrete pad, right beside the pergola. The concrete pad is the remnant of a house that was relocated. It was used as a compost location prior to conversion to raised bed site.

What a wonderful garden! I'd be spending time on that blue swing soaking up the ambiance!

Nice garden Alex.

Is the potting bench made of 4X4's? That's what I need- a working surface. Was considering the resin lumber, whatever its called now.

Potting bench is made of 2 x 6's laid flat on top, secured to 2 x 4 perimeter. The top is secured to a single 4 x 4 post at each end, so as to minimize the foot print. The set up works very well, but will eventually need to add a couple of 'Y' braces to keep the top horizontal.

Here is a better photo from 2010 shortly after the bench was constructed. You can see where it may need 'Y' support near the top of the 4 x 4 support post. The bench has twisted slightly without the added support.

ah ha, Ok that picture helps. Some support braces would helpful when you get the surface full for sure.

I think I'll go on the portable side of things for the seasonal needs. Once summer settles in- hopefully with more time, I plan to build a bench. Bending over is getting old :x

Functional and beautiful. I admire what you have done with your vegetable garden. I wish I could make mine look 1/2 as nice as yours. I bet my neighbors would not mind either.
