Mote

I found a bag of "Mote" in a salvage grocery store today. Anyone know if these giant corn kernels will sprout of if they are processed in some way? It was only $2 for about a 2lb bag so I grabbed it even though I wasn't sure. But if they're not going to sprout I'd rather eat it than bury it.

What exactly does the bag list as ingredients, and which country did it originate in?

If it's Ecuadorian or Peruvian and just lists "Mote" then they'll likely sprout. However, if lye is on the list, it's been treated prior to packing (which means it's ready for the pressure cooker) and won't sprout.
