Melons and cukes not doing much.

Hi,

I planted some boston pickling, mini white cukes, and some minnesota midget melons about a month ago. All are only like 2-3 inches high, and that is the big ones. Some of the others are smaller. I have the mini white cukes in a pot I had them in direct sun but then moved them to an area where they get some shade part of the day. They seem to be doing a little better and I see a little growth. I have been adding a bunch of compost around the plants too.

I thought march was a good time to plant these for my zone (zone 9-10). But they are not doing much. I can see now that it is getting warmer they are starting to grow a little but really slow. Before that they just sat there. I am thinking march/april is not a good time to sow these. I hear people talking about cukes and melons growing fast but not mine. Any idea what may be wrong? They get about 4 hours direct sun and some filtered sun after that, I know this will slow them down a little but don't think it would be this bad.

One of two things:
1 Not enough sunshine,
2 Fertility issue with the soil.

It is likely a combination of the two.

Yes, I agree. Melons want full sun all day.
