what bug is taking out my plants?

my daughter has some flower plants and cucumbers in her garden. Something is taking them out. I don't think it is a cut worm, only because it is like 1 stem or leaf at a time, but it is cut. I thought the cut worms just did the entire thing?? I am frustrated for her, she is only 5 and we've been working on these things since march. I killed 3/4 of them already due to trying out my 'greenhouse" and over watering one day. she only has a couple left. help! even 2 of her little cucumbers that had 1 leaf only are chopped at the leaf! do you think they'll grow new leaves even though they're leafless? or should we replant?

Cucumber thing sounds like slug? So sorry to hear about these troubles. How about sowing some beans now for the hot season? Or edamame. My kids LOVE edamame (green soybeans). Cucumbers will sprout quickly with the soil warming up so keep trying until you get some to grow.

I originally thought slug, but would it chop the leaf off and not eat the leaf?
