I have Peas!

I'm finally seeing peas on my plant, yay!

Now does anyone know how to tell when they're ripe enough to pick off?

Forgive me for a possibly very obvious question, but I'm extremely new to this :)

That depends on what kind they are. If they are sweet peas, wait till they get thick and the peas sceem filled out. Mine just started to produce monday. I cant wait till they are ready.

just hold up a pod against the sun - the light should be strong enough you can "x-ray" see thru the pod to judge the size of the actual pea.

how big is big enough? well, that's problematic.
some like "baby peas" some like "plump peas" not too many like "obese peas" - they tend to go somewhat mealy.

so, pick a few, shell, see how big they are - munch 'em down right in the garden, adjust to your taste . . .

Keep your pods too. Most varieties are great additions to pasta, stir frys, etc. Just saute in olive oil/butter for a couple minutes, and add to the pasta. Great for like a vegetable stir fry, over rice. Throw some of your peas in too.

As far as when to pick, not too big, not too small.
