double row versus single row corn

Has anyone tried doing double rows of corn versus single rows? I'm debating about doing this, I hear alot of mixed things, some say double rows are the way to go others say go single...

Ive planted single rows at 30 inches apart and did really good...

I would like to hear what some of you expert gardeners have to say about doing double rows.

I don't know what the double rows are but I plant mine 16" between rows.

I want to maximize my space since I only have a 25x50 plot, I don't want to sacrifice yield potential or ear size

I had a real small plot for my corn last year. To maximize space I just scrunched everything in. Everything grew TALL and pollinated itself just fine. Call my crazy but I think everything they say about corn is WRONG. You can grow them in small spaces, you can grow them in rows. I was very successful last year having a single row and growing them in the small space that they were in. In fact, I couldn't eat all the corn that came off my stalks! It was really nice because they both grew so tall I didn't see the buildings next door.

I can't WAIT to put the corn in this year! Probably will put the watermelon and corn in tomorrow.

This is my row corn:

The only issue I had is that in strong wind and rain they'd get knocked over. That whole fence can really move in the wind too. So you can see in the pic that I strung them up. Problem solved!

The only good pic I have of the block corn. This stuff got so tall I couldn't pick it - and I'm 5'10"!!

I love that pic of them strung up along the fence. I debated planting a row of corn next to my cyclone fence in the back as a temporary privacy barrier this summer, but I don't think they'd get enough sun where the fence is.

I'm no expert but I planted double rows and had good success. I planted four double rows with the corn about six or eight inches apart in the double row and the rows about three feet apart.
I hope yours does well.

Thanks! Those produced first and offered up some great ears:

I started out pollinating the fence corn myself then got lazy but it got itself pollinated perfectly fine.

Currently I have some snowpeas in that area but when those are done I think I'll do corn there again. Corn is my favorite crop.
