cauliflower button heads

I think some of my plants are producing heads too soon. I mean from ground to tip of leaf maybe a foot tall, but some of them have almost golfball size heads down in them. I don't remember it being that way last year. Is this common or anything I should do?

I am going to say the unseasonable weather is the cause of this..remember the heat waves we have all experienced this Spring? They do much better as a cool weather crop and there is not a thing you can do to correct this. I say plant a crop again for Fall and most likely you will get a decent crop.
