For my Front Yard Edible Landscaping bed, I mixed up red/purple cole crop seeds and scattered them. Now I can't tell what they are!
Red Russian Kale is obvious with frilly leaves. Other candidates are Red Acre cabbage, Purple Vienna Kohlrabi, and Falstaff Brussels sprouts..... The red basil like seedlings are one of two purple variety basils or red shiso.

Oh no! I was hoping you would be able to tell, James.
I thought I was being conservative when I sowed these, but wasn't sure how well they'll germinate. I guess I'll start by thinning to 6" spacing and hopefully kohlrabi will reveal itself, then thin to 12 or 18". Baby coles are great addition to salads and sautéed greens.
The worst turned out to be cilantro. EVERY single seed germinates it seems.
Them and dill. I started out saving the thinnings. now
I just hoe them down like any other weed. At least they serve as mulch and go back to the soil.

I have a dill jungle going and still they crop up..thought I would just shake the seeds off last Fall and see how many would crop up this Spring.. fool that I was, thinking I would only get maybe a dozen or so!! even worse fool they are in the flower beds! oh well, they are much added greenery anyhow.

I always end up transplanting a bunch of plants in the cabbage group. They come up too close, and rather than just kill the extras, I move them into a row. They may wilt, but usually survive. Best size for transplanting is 2 to 3 inches tall. Cabbage needs to be spaced 18 to 24 inches. The plants get huge. Kohlrabi and kale can be closer.
