Corn shoots?

This is probably a stupid question, but is it normal for corn plants to shoot suckers or whatever theyre called from the base. will corn grow from the shoots. should I leave them or cut them or what? this is my first time planting and growing corn.

You probably accident have 2 seeds in the same spot. One plant is a runt. You don't need the runt it will stunt the growth of the larger plant.

They are called tillers and each plant may have two of them. Just let them grow, not a problem.

Ditto what Jalut said. I had some of mine sprout even 3 tho there was just one seed. I just went ahead and let them grow. Didn't cause an issue. Altho - I dunno how big your corn area is - what I would recommend is piling up dirt around your corn once it gets bigger. Corn has very shallow roots and gets blown over easily. They will put out fingers to try to stabalize themslves. I lost a bunch of corn to high winds last year so I kept adding soil around the base and that fixed it.

Mine did, but smaller fruit than the main plant.
