I don't really have enough expertise to offer advice on this one, but I'll give you my thoughts. It looks alot like what vine borers do, but it is lacking the orange funky stuff that you usually see around those holes in the vines. If it is vine borers, There isn't anything organic that I'm aware of to stop them. I experimented with a syringe once to inject Neem oil into the vines every few inches. The results were good, temporarily, but the plants eventually succumbed.
My first instinct is that this is not vine borers which makes it an interesting mystery to me (and a frustrating one for you).
