Starting potatoes early inside has anyone tried this?

We have crazy spring weather I think that is part of my problem growing potatoes. So I plan to start my potatoes inside this year. I am going to try and time this so my potatoes have roots and about 3" of plant growth before I plant them in the garden. When the weather here suddenly changes from 70 deg to 100 degrees every day about mid June I want my potatoe plants to be dig up before it gets hot.

Its worth a try. I have grown a potato indoors in a pot just for the greenery.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained. It's the grand experiment. See what happens?
