That is a interesting radish.

By the way, looks like you have Flea Beetle. You may want to try Neem oil.

pull one and look? Presumably you planted a bunch of them at the same time, so they will all be in a similar stage. So you can look at one and get an idea of how they all are doing. Pull the one with no leaves, it's not going to do any more anyway.

I've seen them swell up like that in the stem above the root that stem part I think is usually fibrous and not good to eat and sometimes the root is underdeveloped, but you can still use it for soup stock.

You can take a finger and move a little soil away from the root to see what you have.

Radishes need to make fast growth to make a nice tender root bulb. Insect damage can prevent them from ever making a nice root. Yes, a lot of insects like to feed on the radish leaves. Try some diatomaceous earth.

You can see the bulbs partially above the soil. Sometimes they might stay below if the seed was planted kinda deep. And when you see some bulbs above the soil don't pull them right away, if you wait a little longer they will get bigger.
