Is this why..........?

Is this why I keep doing this gardening stuff? It turns into a lot of work, but sometimes its fun and rewarding.

You rock James.

I can't hardly grow pumpkins mainly due to pests. And here you are still harvesting them. How many freezes have you had? Amazing!

",but sometimes it's fun and rewarding". Come on James, it's lots of fun and very rewarding, isn't it? If it's becoming a burden, maybe it's time to scale down.

It's all good

gix, hate to pop ur bubble, but that is an old picture. Currently the garden has a coating of snow on it. Its things like this though that gets me thinking about planting again. We will be lucky if we can get going in March, more likely April. I see some are reporting seed catalogs arriving. That is two weeks early. They usually start coming about new years it seems. I guess its been so long since I ordered from a catalog, that I won't get any? I guess now is a good time to take an inventory of seeds and see what will be needed next season. Have a great day!

Every year I tell my wife I'm going to cut the garden in half. She just giggles and sez, "Ya, sure you will!"

Every year I look for more room. Unfortunately, everything needs to be fenced.

Very nice!

Do you have a favorite winter squash or pumpkin?

Is the big pumpkin already in a pie or in storage?

I like Howden Pumpkin, Jack-O-Lantern pumpkin, and have grown Big Max.
Deborah, pumpkins end up being decorations. Seldom eat one. Any of the winter squash make a much better "Pumpkin" pie.

For winter squash I like Butternut, Hubbard, and Yellow Banana squash. We just cooked up a Hubbard. It was sure tasty. It has a sweet deep yellow/orange flesh.

The next time you buy canned pumpkin pie filling, read the label. Most filling is not pumpkin but hubbard or butternut or .......

I would choose Sweet Meat or Burgess for pie and other baked goods.
