Thank you. Actually the term amateur simply means I don't get paid. It has nothing to do with the skill level. However, I am still learning for sure. There is always something new to learn about the equipment and the technique.

Getting back on topic........ here is an early morning shot of my garden getting watered. Yes I sprinkle. Not much choice as that is how the irrigation system is designed to work.

Yea amazing Pictures, I one day plan on take pictures for self enjoyment, I now do it with my phone tho, 8MP Just don't cut it, Either way I enjoy doing it, and the Veggies wow I hope I soon Get an amazing Variety as you, Like I had said My First Year Gardening and I Must say I have Learn so much here.

for those, like me, that don't know photography technical terms, CPL = circular polarizing lens/ filter. I put CPL into google to try to find out and got all kinds of stuff, some company abbreviation on the stock exchange, Chicago Public Library, Cleveland Public Library, etc. Only when I entered CPL + photography into the search box was I able to figure this one out.

It's sort of like sunglasses for your camera and is useful for cameras that have a through-the-lens metering system, or autofocus.

But isn't this talking about film cameras, jal? Are you using film for your photography?

It originally starter with film cameras, and Linear Polarizer Filter was invented. In today's DSLR, Circular Ploarizer filters are used, due to design of digital sensors (Autofocus performance and overall metering).

CPL can essentially be use on any digital camera that has a thread on the front of the lens (so this would apply to DSLR, micro 4/3rds systems and many advanced Point and Shoot cameras).

It is as simple as mounting it to a front thread of the lens (in this case, just a cheap, plastic Holga lens if anyone remembers them) :

And while rotating the front element of CPL, you able to achieve the result that pleases you (removing unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces, like water or glass, enhancing the appearance of the clods and so on)

Personally, If you enjoy photography, and have a lens with threaded front element, I'd recommend having CPL to everyone, it is a great tool! Use it every time - no, but there are many situations, specially as Jal photo, as well as fall colors, you will love what it will help you to achieve!

I have a 2 MP camera on my cell phone. I quite often take photos with it. It is an amazing little camera. It has auto focus and auto exposure. All I have to do is pay some attention to composition and lighting to get some real nice photos with it. They may not be that good for making prints, but they are surely good enough for viewing on the computer or posting to forums. Many of the photos I have posted here were taken with the phone camera. I always have it in my pocket, so it often gets used.

Yes, I use a DSLR camera. It is a Sony @100. No expensive glass. I am using the kit lens 18-70 plus a 70-300 MM lens by Quantaray. This digital camera turned me loose. I never before had enough money to do much shooting with film, but that is not an issue now. I can shoot as much as I wish, and keep the good ones.

Oh, about the CPL filter. The fellow who sold me the camera said I should always keep a filter on the lens to prevent the lens from getting damaged. Made good sense. I have several filters in the bag, but this one is the one that is on the camera most often.
