Do watermelon have thin stems?

Do watermelon vines have thin stems ?

Its the first time I'm growing watermelon (sugar baby to be exact) it looks healthy and its beginning to flower but the thin stem is making me nerves even my cucumber stem is thicker

I never thought about it before you asked this question, but, yeah, their stems are thin compared to other cucurbits of the same size. My sugar baby's stem is thinner than a pencil.

Mine are supposed to produce regular sized watermelon. The vines are twice this long now, and, yes, they are thin vined.
