When it's time to harvest Peppers, Squash, Cukes etc.

I want to be sure I get this right. When it comes to peppers, squash etc. the more I harvest the more the plants will produce for me right?

I ask because family members say no don't pick all of the peppers on the plants they won't grow as fast back and I say otherwise.

Who is correct?

Not all vegeys are mature at the same time so you are both right but taking off the mature one's leaves the energy to help the others mature.
