What is going on with my squashes?

Hi all,

I have a spaghetti squash plant and it's really strong and growing lots of fruit.

What I can't figure out though, is why some of the fruit are pure white, while some have a grainy looking skin similar to a cantaloupe:

I'm not the most seasoned gardener, but I have a zucchini plant and a cantaloupe plant nearby...

Is this some sort of cross pollination?

Hmm, where did you get the seed from? If you saved it yourself, it may very well be a variety that was cross-pollinated.

Also, one may be further along the ripening process than the other.

It came from a garden centre..

Do spaghetti squashes get that grainy type skin though??

Hmmm. Looks like an issue similar to grapevine's mystery squash.

Something like that happened with my pumpkins. They cross polinated and produced weird fruit.

Could be. Was it a saved seed or a volunteer?

It is likely a cross. The fruits should all look the same from a good seed source. It has to do with the seed you planted. Cross pollination does not effect the outcome of the squash this season. You will see the crosses next season if you save seed and plant it. I can only suggest that you shop elsewhere for seed next season. These squash you show are on the same plant? Interesting. I can only suggest they are of a different age. Watch and see if they change as they ripen?

It looks quite a lot like a Delicata, a little short of maturity.
