These are all photos of my current garden space, though my balcony is also full. Included in the set is a photo of my next target: the corner curbside patch. I'm happy with the results of my first garden and look forward to spending my life with this hobby.

All of the plants in the photos were started from seed, most in conditions contrary to the seed packet info. I have seeds from two companies, Burpee and Renee's Seed. I have been very happy with the germination rate from these seeds, my balcony warms up quickly with the sun and serves as an ideal germination ground. I water twice a day using a watering container and the installed sprinkler system waters once a day in the early morning. I fertilize once every other week using emulsified fish fertilizer and I have placed Miracle-Gro plant food spikes throughout my beds.

Watering by hand has given me the opportunity to meet my neighbors as they walk around the city;I have yet to meet someone that does not appreciate the infusion of life into the area. I am happy to say my beds have never been the target of vandalism of wanton destruction. I planted the curbside patch in hopes of spreading an appreciation for gardening as a rewarding past-time. Children seem to love seeing the fruit grow on the vine; if even one of the kids that pass by ask their parents to buy some seeds I know I'll have made a good difference in the world.

Gardening doesn't have to be complicated or expensive. I have spent less than one-hundred dollars pursuing my hobby and know that the returns will far outweigh my initial investments. Well, I'll stop writing about my gardening philosophy now, hope you enjoyed the pictures.

Love the use of the old bricks.

Given the historic district angle, have you planted any heirloom veggies, fruit trees, or thought about the use of native plants? Just curious.

Glendora, zone 8b, has to be northern California, right?

Very nice gardens thanks! Tghose squash flowers look like they would be great in a salad. Watering twice a day keeps them looking so good! I just read that tame rabbits can eat and love squash flowers!Isee a flower in your garden. I suggest to everyone to plant flowers in the garden and naturtiums are my favorite espcially you can eat the leaves and flowers and they look nice with the vine effect.
