Odd question
Yesterday I noticed white bugs later to be identified as aphids on my container pepper plant on my 3rd floor balcony. My Girlfriend just described one and I showed her pics on google, it was on the lazyboy in the apartment. Should I be worried? Can they do anything to us or our cat or is it harmless? I have no indoor plants so why is it in here?
It probably drifted in on the breeze, or was carried in on someone's clothing or the cat's hair.
Aphids don't have chewing mouthparts, so they can't bite you or your pets. They suck plant juices, and their mouthparts are fairly weak. They usually are found on the tender new growth of plants, because it's difficult for them to penetrate the older, tougher parts of the plant.
Without plant sap to live on, the aphid will die quickly.
