squash dying for no apparent reason.....pic included

I am having massive squash plant death! At first the leaves just become droopy.....not discolored......still a beautiful green.................then the stems collapse to the ground and the plant dies. There is no infestation above ground as far as I can see......Can anyone help me? Iam not an organic grower so I am open to many and all suggestions. I am about to plant some new seedlings so I would like to try to remedy this problem first if at all possible. here is a pic:

If I had to guess, I'd say Squash Vine Borer. Your pic isn't showing up btw! Cut a stem open to look for the evil borer. Squash bugs will also do that to squash. They lay eggs under the leaves in clusters and the adults are stink bug looking things. Evil SOB's if there ever was any. Fertilome makes a bug killer that works on the squash bugs. Can't remember what the name is though. I've never dealt with SVB's so I can't advise on them.

Definitely looks like the SVB - squash vine borer - damage to me. Nothing else in my experience so totally destroys a big healthy plant so fast.

Type squash vine borer in the Search the Forum keyword box and find tons written here about them. But this year I just gave up on growing zucchini having failed to outwit them. I'm trying acorn squash to see if they are more resistant.
