may be a stupid question: what are these cone-like things?

Hello all! I'm very new to gardening and this is my first year. I garden in a local riverside community garden with ridiculous clay soil. I've managed to get off to a pretty good start thanks to fabulous forums and people such as yourself! Today, I noticed multitudes of these, what I can only describe as "cone-like" things. Anyone have any clue what these things are? I've "googled" like crazy....just wondering if it something that I need to get rid of since I do have quite a few of them! Anyway, I'd love to hear any thoughts. Thank you so much for your time, it means a lot. Have a good day, and happy growing :)

It's just a fungus helping to decay the wood that it grows on. (Basically mushrooms). No problem. Just don't eat them :)
